Bansko
The newest Bulgarian winter resort, recently discovered by the foreign tourists, Bansko
provides an interesting combination between the virgin nature of Pirin Mountain and the
atmosphere of the ancient Bulgarian town. The town of Bansko is situated in South-western
Bulgaria, at the foothills of one of the most beautiful Bulgarian mountains - Pirin, which is a
national preserve, included in the WORLD NATURAL HERITAGE list. Ski-resort of national
significance, much visited also in summer as a starting point for excursions in the mountain.
Surrounded by the Pirin, Rila and Rhodope mountains, Bansko is a climatic mountain resort
with a short hot summer and long mild winter. The average temperature during January, the
coldest month, is - 1.9ÀC. Snow falls are abundant, providing a constant winter snow cover up
to 2 m thick. The skiing season along the Pirin slopes starts in the middle of December and
ends in mid-April.
Borovets
This is the oldest mountain resort where skiers can experience the thrills of the "white sport"
in winter, and hikers enjoy the green freshness of the mountains in summer. Situated at 1350
m above sea level on the northern slopes of Rila Mountain among age old pine woods,
Borovets is located at the foot of peak MOUSALA (2925 m) - the highest one on Balkan
Peninsula. Borovets is easily accessible, being at a distance of 73 km. from Sofia and 126 km
from Plovdiv. The town of Samakov is only 10 km from the resort.
Pamporovo
The pearl of the Bulgarian mountain resorts, Pamporovo is a ski-centre for all levels of skiers.
Pamporovo has excellent ski runs including a racing run for giant slalom as well as a first class
well developed lift system. Pamporovo has a mild but very snowy winter. The number of
sunny days during the ski season from December to May averages 120 days so visitors should
bring their sun screen.
Pamporovo is located at an altitude of 1650 m above sea level amidst picturesque valleys and
peaks of the Rhodope Mountains, where according to the legend, Orpheus, the mythical
singer, once lived. |
Sea Resorts
Burgas Zone
Is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria, situated in the south-eastern part of the country. The
climate here is temperately continental with a distinct impact from the Black Sea. One of the
biggest industrial plants on the Balkan Peninsula, Neftochim-EAD, is located in the vicinity of
the city. The Port of Burgas is the biggest sea port in the country. A Duty Free Zone was
established in 1989 with the objective to create most attractive conditions for foreign
investors. The favourable geographical location and advanced transport infrastructure of
Burgas are good prerequisites for development of tourism and trade.

St. Vlas Zone
Sveti Vlas is a beautiful coastal village of approx. 3000 inhabitants, situated just 5 kilometres
north of Sunny Beach and 9 kilometres from Nessebar. This magnificent resort is a great
combination of beautiful seaside at the foot of the Balkan mountain range. It has been
developed into a modern beach destination during the recent years, with brand new hotels
and tourist infrastructure. A new marina is being constructed.

Varna Zone
Varna is Bulgaria's Sea Capital. The gem of the Bulgarian Black Sea is situated at the end of
the big Varna Bay, with a convenient and well conserved water area a port which in years
handles up to 18 million tons of cargo. The city’s peculiar sea charm is sublime and moving.
Ancient, medieval, renaissance and modern cultures mingle and coexist through the city.
Varna lies on the same latitude of the famous Atlantic resorts Bayonne and Biarritz in France,
on a large, flat and high terrace on the north-western most curve of the bay which just some
7km inland. The city occupies some 24sq km, measuring 6km northeast-southwest and is
about 4km wide. During the holiday season, July and August, the sunshine allows 10-11 hours
of sunbathing.
